GOVERNMENT HOUSE, 429

HONGKONG.

17th October, 1926.

I

In continuation of my previous despatches on the boycott situation, I have the honour to enclose translation from the Man Kwok Yat Po of a speech de- livered at Canton on the 6th October by Mr. Sun Fo. invite special attention to his statement that the decision to withdraw strike pickets on the 10th October "is merely a change in our policy and is not a radical settlement of the strike question”. It is interesting also to note his admission that the economic boycott policy has hitherto involved "a compulsory control" imposed upon the people.

2.

In connection with the remarks of Mr. Sun Fo on the military situation, I invite attention to the series of my recent despatches on the civil war in South China.

I have the honour to be, sif,

Your most obedient, humble servant
